Empowher Outreach at St. Anthony’s Grammar School: Educating and Empowering 200 Girls in Ijebu Mushin

On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Savvy Initiative’s Empowher team continued its mission of empowering girls through hygiene education with a transformative outreach at St. Anthony’s Grammar School, Esure, Ijebu Mushin. In line with its core pillars—Education, Creativity, Community, and Recognition—the program reached 200 girls, providing them with essential hygiene items and critical knowledge about their personal well-being.

Arrival and Engagement – 12:00 PM

The team arrived at the school by noon and was warmly received by the school’s teaching staff, who supported in assembling the girls in the main hall. The session began with a personal hygiene sensitization talk, covering key topics such as menstrual hygiene, body care, and cleanliness routines—all tailored for adolescent girls navigating puberty and early womanhood.

Private Q&A: Meeting the Girls Where They Are

Recognizing the sensitivity of the topic, the Empowher team encouraged the girls to write down their questions anonymously, especially those too shy to speak publicly. The majority of questions centered on understanding the menstrual cycle, prompting the team to offer deeper insights into the physical and emotional changes associated with menstruation. This open, non-judgmental format fostered trust and deeper learning.

Care Package Distribution

After the interactive session, the girls received care packages, each neatly packed in a brown envelope and containing:

• 1 sanitary pad
• 1 toothbrush
• 1 toothpaste
• 1 bathing soap

These items, though simple, represent dignity, support, and care, reminding each girl that her hygiene and health matter.

Departure – 1:30 PM

By 1:30 PM, the team departed, leaving behind not just supplies, but empowered minds and uplifted spirits. Photos and video clips captured moments of learning, laughter, and gratitude shared between the girls, teachers, and the Empowher team.
